Recurve Bow Hunting

This site is dedicated to helping hunters’ and archers’ alike recognizing the benefits of not only shooting recurve bow but hunting with a traditional bow.

My first thought when building this blog was I will cover what the different areas on a recurve bow, different bow strings available on the market and instinctive shooting. I soon found out that just covering these few topics was not sufficient enough to give the overall topic justice. Not only sufficient but today’s archers are more vested in these traditions requiring more in depth information on the subject at hand.

The act of shooting a traditional bow is called traditional archery. Some hunters believe a true traditionalist can only be defined as one that uses no mechanical devices what so ever. Meaning they shoot with their bare fingers, their arrows are made of wood, their quiver is not mounted on the bow, and no mounted sight. Although with these strict guidelines we soon find archers are more accepting of the newer technologies such as a shooting tab, carbon arrows and screw mounted quivers. Although being a traditionalist means for some just using a recurve bow or long bow and the bow attachments are negligent in defining who they are as an archer. I believe the latter will not only help traditional archery but it will attract more archers necessarily not wanting the stringent guidelines some archers set. I do not discount those strict guidelines that some have set but I recognize the value in how traditional archery will evolve with the needs of today’s archer.

This generation of archers have seen the single most largest spurt of growth in the popularity of archery since its inception. This largest single spurt of growth was due to the persistence of archers to name a few like Fred Bear, Chuck Adams and Howard Hill all master at shooting a recurve bow. Their fruits of there labor spawned 3d archery tournaments which mainstreamed archery. It bridge the gape between hunters and non-hunters alike shooting bow and arrow alongside one another. Archers form close relationships with regular shooting partners they see on the course. Comradeship forms that would have never been seen without the hard work and persistence archery grandparents that envisioned a better future for archery.
