Archery Popularity

Archery was once taught in our schools but with ever tightening budgets it is often the first to get cut. But with the archery popularity increasing we are seeing more schools starting up Archery Clubs as an after school activity.

Since 3D archery shoots came into being within the last few decades the archery popularity has been on the rise. 3D shoots offer hunters and non-hunters alike a pleasurable setting to make into a family outing. This not only introduces the younger generation into archery tournaments but often the course is laid out in the midst of nature itself. It gives a chance for the younger generation to be exposed to great outdoors and is a stepping stone for sportsman like conduct and great foundation to teach children about different species of animals.

The target on a 3D course usually consists of animal targets with the bull’s eye located in the proper kill range of the target. This helps young archery hunters determine and visualize what the best shot placement is on certain species of animals. The targets can range from raccoon, to elk, to whitetail deer and every species in between.

Archery was once taught in our schools but with ever tightening budgets it is often the first to get cut. But with the archery popularity increasing we are seeing more schools starting up Archery Clubs as an after school activity. This not only stimulates the local and regional economy but makes for a great setting to keep kids off the streets.

Some of this increase in popularity is due to archers like Fred Bear and Chuck Adams. They have taken a personal initiative to put the fun back into the sport. They are both recognized as leading contributors to the advances in bowhunting within the past decades. Although Fred Bear has passed on recently his youth bows are really what Bear Archery is all about and that is introducing kids into our tradition.

The greatest promotion of our sport is introducing a young child into archery. Whether it be compound bow or recurve bow there is nothing better than seeing a twinkle in their eye when you say let’s go fling some arrows.  So if you ever get a chance maybe instead of buying your young nephew or niece a new video game try buying them a youth bow and arrow set. I can guarantee the values and self esteem they gain from being a successful archer will supersede sitting in front of a TV for hours on end.

We can be apart of the rise in archery popularity if we take a small personal initiative to introduce a few kids into the tradition each year. We can only promote and hope for the best. But it is with this caring and promotion comes the makes of legendary bowhunters like Fred Bear and Chuck Adams these archers can inspire us daily. Check back on future articles I want to talk about popular women archers that substantially helped mainstream archery and promoted archery just as much as there counterparts.
